There’s been a lot going on in Qatar in the past few years, and the country will continue to expand and develop, especially as it prepares to host the 2022 FIFA World Cup. Here is a roundup of some of the biggest projects currently taking place or coming up soon.
1. Lusail City:
One of Qatar’s most anticipated cities should be completely developed by 2019. The brand new coastal city will include mixed used commercial and residential units, as well as schools, hotels, golf courses and more! While some buildings and areas have already been completed, there is certainly more to come from this great city.
2. Downtown Msheireb:
With aims to modernize the original downtown of Doha, while keeping its historical and traditional aspect, Downtown Msheireb is the world’s first fully sustainable downtown regeneration project and will include premiere residential and commercial units, as well as hotels, museums, cultural and entertainment venues and more.
3, World Cup Stadiums:
An estimated eight to ten billion USD budget has been secured to build nine new state-of-the-art stadiums, as well as renovate and expand three existing stadiums. These will be spread out across seven cities, and will have a total capacity of over 600,000 seats.
4. Doha Metro – Qatar Rail:
Connecting all major points of interest in the Greater Doha area, the Doha Metro will have an approximate overall length of 300 kilometers and will include 95 uniquely themed stations.
5. Doha New Port:
Spanning 26.5 square meters, it will also include a new base for the Naval Forces, as well as one of the many Qatar Economic Zones that are being set up, and industrial and residential facilities. It is being designed to handle six million containers annually, and also features a cargo terminal.
