With the influx of expats coming to Qatar as the country prepares to host the 2022 FIFA World Cup, the Qatari government is working hard to expand the country, especially when it comes to finding housing and residential units.
It was not too long ago when Doha was considered the only option for expats to look for apartments for rent, but this has recently changed. People are now more open to living outside of the capital, mainly because other cities are now better equipped and prepared to cater to the needs of residents, and there are many options to choose from when looking to rent an apartment in Qatar.
One of those areas is Al Wakra, which is located on the eastern side of Qatar, just south of Doha. The city was originally a small fishing and pearling village, but over the years, it has devolved into a big town with a population of more than 30,000 and it is considered to be one of the major cities in Qatar.
Al Wakra offers residents a number of budget friendly apartments for rent, and one popular choice for finding an apartment for rent in Al Wakra is Barwa Village. Spread out over 400,000 square metres, Barwa Village consists of 18 low-rise commercial and residential complexes that offer 918 retail units, 96 studio apartments, 262 one-bedroom apartments and 100 two-bedroom apartments. The area and compounds is considered to be very budget friendly, and is very popular with medium income families and individuals.
Depending on what your needs are, you will be able to find one, two or three bedroom apartments in Barwa Village, all which are spacious and neatly kept. Facilities are also available on site, including playgrounds and swimming pools. The area is largely considered as a gated community, and residents of Barwa Village can easily create friendships and bonds with compatible neighbors. Most apartments available for rent are fully furnished; however, this does not mean that you will not be able to customize your unit; there are many ways and ideas that you can use that will make your house a home in no time!Wakrah has all the makings of a modern city, with shops, restaurants, health centers and schools all in the vicinity, or within a close distance. There are a number of activities for residents to partake in; the city is bordered by the Arabian Gulf on the eastern side, making it a coastal city. Considered to be more of a traditional area, Al Wakrah offers residents an insider look into the Qatari cultural, largely due to the stunning mosques, old homes and harbour that are located there. It is also home to Al Wakrah fort, considered to be a significant landmark in the country. Major developments plans are underway for Al Wakrah, which include a park and a country club. A corniche-like water front is also planned, along with a number of hotels, a golf course and a railway station.
Keep in mind however, that living in Al Wakrah means that you will most probably be commuting to work, which can take up some extra time; but many believe that living in the suburbs offers a serene experience that is lacking in the big city!
